The MC 50-B LightningController is a lightning arrester, Type 1 (Class B) to DIN EN 61643-11, designed to deflect high pulsed currents (10/350). It is used in lightning protection zones (LPZ) 0 to 1 at building entrances, where it provides for lightning protection potential equalisation with the power supply lines. Because the multiple discharge gap is an enclosed arrester, no spark emissions occur outside the housing. The Type MC 125-B/NPE total discharge gap is used in TN-S and TT network systems between N and PE. It prevents voltage drag on the conductor, thereby preventing impermissible, high contact voltages at potential equalisation. The LightningController is used in industrial plants, public buildings, commercial and large residential buildings. It is suitable for use in pre-meter area according to VDN Directive, 2nd Edition 2004 (TAB 2000).

Lightning current arrester/LightningController (Arrester type 1)

The Type MCD 50-B Coordinated LightningController is a coordinated lightning arrester, Type 1 (Class B) to DIN EN 61643-11, designed to deflect high pulsed currents (10/350). It is used in lightning protection zones (LPZ) 0 to 1 at building entrances, where it provides for lightning protection potential equalisation with the energy supply lines. Due to the low-level protection (greater than 1.3 kV), there are no additional decoupling elements between the Coordinated LightningController and the downstream surge arresters. The Type MCD 125-B/NPE total discharge gap is used in TN-S and TT network systems between N and PE. It prevents voltage drag on the conductor, thereby preventing impermissible, high contact voltages at potential equalisation. The Coordinated LightningController is preferred for use in compact surge arrester concepts in a housing, as well as combined lightning and overvoltage protector installations in a distribution

Operation and fields of application

Lightning and surge arrester V 25-B+C ensures light- ning protection potential equalisation in accordance with VDE 0185, Part 1 and Part 100. The device is an arrester of requirement Class B+C to DIN VDE 0675, Part 6 (Draft 11.89) A1, A2. It ensures potential equal- isation for the energy supply line in lightning protec- tion installations for buildings. The arrester can also be used in buildings that are supplied with power via an overhead line, since direct or partial lightning cur- rents may be expected there as well. Version V 25-B+C/3+NPE (requirement Class B+C) is a special surge arrester for TN-C-S, TN-S, TT and IT systems. This device was developed for the new re- quirements of DIN VDE 0100, Part 534/A1, to allow simple, safe installation of the devices. High-performance arrester OBO V 25-B+C has a special varistor circuit made up of powerful zinc oxide varistors with a highly non-linear characteristic (a>30). This design ensures maximum protection even with powerful surges. Even at a maximum load Imax of 50 kA the protection level is below 1.5 kV. This enables this type of device to withstand even partial lightning currents from direct lightning strikes. In the event of an overload, the built-in isolating device iso- lates the faulty arrester module from the network and indicates this with a red field. Because of the low residual voltage, OBO lightning arrester V 25-B+C can also be used as a combined arrester B and C. Service location in accordance with VDS 2031.


Surge arresters SurgeController V 20-C, V 20-C/...+NPE



Operation and fields of application

SurgeControllers V 20-C are surge arresters of re- quirement class C to DIN VDE 0675, Part 6 (Draft 02.89) A1, A2. These devices protect low-voltage consumer installations from voltage sur- ges of all kinds. They are available in single-pole to four-pole versions. Type V 20-C/3+NPE (requirement class C) is a special surge arrester for TN-C-S, TN-S, TT and IT systems. This device was developed for the new requirements of DIN VDE 0100, Part 534/A1, to allow simple, safe installation of the devices. The voltage-dependent active part of the V 20-C is a high-performance zinc oxide varistor with a highly non-linear characteristic. Among the advantages of this component are an extremely short response time, a low protection level and a high current diversion capacity, combined with long life. A further feature of these devices is that no follow-up current can be registered after the surge has decayed. If the surge arrester is damaged by overloading, the integral isolating device breaks the connection to the mains. This is signalled by a red fault indicator.
